The same person’s name may appear in a different order or use different spacing, hyphens or middle names across documents. Locate the differences, then check the originals and official instructions.
What to look for across documents
Separators can be added, omitted or placed differently. Compare the characters as they appear in each original.
A document may show a full middle name, an initial or no middle name. Record the difference for review.
Japanese names may be written with different spellings for long vowels or doubled consonants. Compare the spelling with the passport.
A document issued earlier may still show a previous name. Keep track of which original contains each version.
O and 0, I and 1, or B and 8 can be confused during text extraction. Sometimes only the extracted text differs.

- Compare again after any correctionCheck the other documents as well so that a remaining difference is not overlooked.
For example, if OCR displays TAR0 where the passport shows TARO, first verify the original and correct the extracted value. That reading error alone does not establish that the underlying document needs changing.
A difference needs review
A name difference does not by itself establish a defect or predict a refusal. Similar-looking names also do not establish that the documents meet the receiving authority’s requirements.
